I am running Windows XP SP2 with IE 7 and am trying to upgrade to version 8 of Adobe Reader. I am also running ZoneAlarm, which I think may get in the way more often than it helps me. I tried downloading Adobe Reader 8 over my dialup connection yesterday using what I think is a standard method: from page <http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html> I clicked on a couple of links, and after an hour or two of downloading it seemed to be done. Because it takes so long to download, I was intending to save the downloaded file(s) so I could make more than one attempt to install if there was trouble. I clicked on a button in a (download manager?) dialog that I thought was going save the files for me to do the install later (I may have misread) and then the dialog disappeared and I couldn't find the file AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe on my disk. I found the download manager log and saw it was getting the file from <http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.0/enu> so I used Internet Explorer to get the file directly from there without an Adobe download manager and now I have the file. (In other threads I have seen this as "ftp://ftp.adobe.com/...", but I have had ftp trouble in the past with several sites and so tried the address listed in the log file first.) In the download manager log, I see it also got a file named sgc10.exe. The questions: Do I need sgc10.exe? Do I simply run one of them using the Windows command prompt or StartMenu:Run dialog? Do the files self validate to check for download corruption? Does someone have an MD5 hash for them? Does Adobe somewhere have official instructions on this? (I tried poking around the ftp site today looking for instructions, but no luck. I see in some other posts that there may be trouble with it today.) Thanks -- Hiram Hunt
