As I have suggested in other threads there is a simple solution.
You need to completely uninstall Reader. Use Add/Remove Programs to start the process. Make sure that ALL versions are removed. If you cannot do it this way, then you will have to manually do it-which is actually simple. You will delete ALL of the Reader related folders on your machine-and only those. You must be the Administrator to accomplish this and the task of editing the Registry.
Editing the Registry is DANGEROUS. I will not be held responsible for your doing it! Make a backup of the Registry and a Restore Point too.
Given the warning, open Regedit and find every reference you can to Adobe Acrobat Reader and delete it. This will give you a "clean" environment to install the newest version. Reader 8 is just fine if you download the full package(without the free Photoshop add-on) and install it from a Temporary (I use my Download)Directory. This should solve your problem.
BTW: Make sure that you anti-virus, spyware, etc programs are not running while doing all of this.
I hope that this helps you and other frustrated users get Reader 8 up and running.
