Thanks so much for taking the time to consider my problem.

When Adobe Reader 8.0 would not start after installation, I followed the instructions Adobe's site with no success. After that, I too was convinced the problem lay in the Windows Registry. I just did not have the nerve to go mucking around in there without at least a little guidance. Your nudge, tempered with a good dose of caution was all I needed.

I followed your advice three times being carful to uninstall AR and then remove all references to Adobe from first my hard drive, and then the Registry. I have not been able to make AR run in my User Account.

At this time I have decided to take another route. I already have another User Account that I have used when solving problems, and AR runs just fine there. I am just going to move all my "stuff" there. This could be a blessing in disguise, as I have another program that I have mucked around with enough that it is now all mucked up and just needs to be reinstalled.
