Apparently some PDF documents are in some sort of binary form. Acrobat knows how to display them, but it isn't smart enough to conduct its search function on the displayed version, and cannot find matches of text in the binary representation. For example I can search a 250 page product manual and not even be able to use FIND to locate a single occurence of the word "the". This is a glaring horrible flaw in Acrobat- I've been tripping over it for many years on many computers and many versions of Acrobat- both purchased full versions and downloaded free readers. Everything I search for says '0 occurrences found' on these files. If I try to do a 'save as' on this file in RTF format, I also get gibberish. Nevertheless these files display ok in Acrobat- so apparently the format is displayable but not searchable. It seems to me that Acrobat should be able to search anything it can display (duh!). An example document is here: <http://kantronics.com/documents/KAMXL_manual2005-09.pdf>
