I have a PDF, created with Acrobat Professional 8, that has a Page open action of "Import Form Data" to load an .fdf file.

This functions as expected using Adobe reader 7 both stand-alone and when embedded in a web browser. But with version 8, the stand-alone reader loads the form data, but when the reader is embedded in the browser, the form data doesn't load and there is no error message or other indication as to why.

This occurs on Windows XP pro using both FireFox 2 and IE 6. I haven't tried other operating systems yet.

Has the "Import Form Data" action been disabled for reader 8 when it is embedded in the browser or something?

I also made a PDF where the "import form data" action was triggered by a button click rather than a "page open" action. Same behavior. In the stand-alone reader, clicking the button would import the form data, but when the reader was embedded in the browser, clicking the button did nothing.

Turns out that Acrobat 8 professional exhibits the same behavior and imports the form data only when launched stand-alone, but not when embedded in the browser.

We're distributing a lot of PDFs on a CD and using the browser with HTML pages to provide the navigation, so we really need to load in the browser, even though the PDF files are local files.
