Problem Installing Reader 8 On Intel Mac

The OS is 10.4, hard drive is 53 GB free, with 1 GB ram. Running at relatively easy speed.

I am able to unpackage and install the download manager, the dmg mounts and in the finder, the "Adobe Reader 8 Installer" Icon appears. I click and Nosso runs. It usually pauses at 64% and then continues. The License agreement appears and I press agree.

After this, the message pops up: "Adobe Reader could not install correctly" and "Adobe was unable to install and must quit."

The folders needed are in place: Library, Shared Users, Printers, Internet Plug-ins, etc. I have tried this five times to no avail, any help would be appreciated.
