Hi, I had the same problem with Safari crashing.
I got round it by going to Macintosh hd/library/internet plug-ins and dragged the adobe plugin to the Desktop. I then re-started Safari and downloaded a .pdf file, adobe then came up with an error for the plug-in with an option to repair it, I unticked the plugin and clicked continue to reset adobe for use without the plug-in. after which .pdf files downloaded and viewed ok without the Adobe plug-in.
You can then either right-click or control-click on the page and select to view with Adobe reader.
It worked for me, I hope it helps you as well.
