That's it, really.

Acrobat Reader 8 Installer crashes on Windows 2000 sp4, two separate machines, both with Acrobat Reader 6 installed, and with Acrobat Reader 6 uninstalled.

I've tried shutting down everything I can shutdown. Still crashes.

Crash happens within seconds of starting the install process, just after double clicking the downloaded binary (i.e. installer hasn;t had time to compose itself, if that's the expression).
