How Many Versions should I have?

I just upgraded to Acrobat 8 and had previously installed Reader 8. When I look in the Windows Control Panel versions list for Add/Delete programs, I see the following:

Adobe Reader 6.0.1
Reader 6.0.2 Update
Reader and Acrobat 6.0.3 Update
Reader and Acrobat 6.0.4 Update
Reader and Acrobat 6.0.5 Update
Reader 7.0.8
Reader 7.0.8 Update
Reader 7.0.8 Update
Reader 8
Acrobat 8 Professional

I have some application documentation programs that have earlier Reader versions named specifically in the Reader section of the applcation folders.

When I loaded Acrobat 8 from a CD, it asked if I wanted to delete the prior versions, and I responded Yes, but it obviously did not delete all the prior versions unless the list I am looking at is not accurate.

Has anyone else seen this issue? My problem now is that I am getting sporadic errors about a missing component when I try to open some PDF documents by simply double clicking on them.

Also, I recalled a setting to make Acrobat the default PDF reader, and I do not find that setting anywhere after the install.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
