Did anyone ever get a resolution to this problem? I am having the exact same symptoms:
IE7 and MSN explorer both freeze when trying to open a pdf file.
Can't uninstall 7.0.8. Add/Remove programs for Adobe 7.0.8 gives me the message "This patch package could not be opened ..."
Can't re-install 7.0.8 because it reports it is already installed.
Can't install version 8 because it reports the previous version couldn't be removed.
