Viewing pdf email attachments

I have adobe reader 7.0. At present I have to save pdf attachments in 'my documents' before I can open them within adobe reader. Surely there must be a way of me opening the pdf email attachment by me double just clicking on it. I must have my settings wrongly set, but I can't work out how to change the settings. can anyone help.
