I must have deleted some needed files because now that I am trying to install a more recent version of Adobe Reader I get an error message that prevents me from going futher. Yes, I seemed to have mucked things up. Adobe 6.0.1 was previously installed and still shows up in "add/remove" programs but produces an error message when I try to remove it and seems to be trying to locate a 6.0.1.msi file that not longer exists. How can I uninstall/remove all references to older versions so that I can proceed with a new install. Thanks, Robert

I could not upgrade Adobe Reader from v 7.0.7 to v 7.0.8. First I got an error message that an .msi (microsoft installer) file could not be found. After other attempts, I got an error message about a missing patch for Window Installer. I downloaded and ran the Windows installer cleanup utility. It did not solve my problem. It did, however, remove the listing of Adobe Reader 7.0.7 from the Windows Add/Remove Programs listing! Following the advice of a friend, I went into regedit, exported a copy of the registry to my desktop, then deleted every folder and file in the registry that was related to Adobe Reader. After exiting the registry editor, I still could not delete the Acrobat 7.0 folder and its contents as a certain "file was in use". I restarted my computer in selective mode via Start...Run...msconfig, unchecked the boxes in "Startup" associated with Reader 7.0, and renamed the Acrobat 7.0 folder to OldAcrobat 7.0. I then downloaded and installed successfully Adobe Reader 7.0.8, which was installed in a new Acrobat 7.0 folder. I then successfully deleted the folder "OldAcrobat 7.0". Now, 7.0.8 was functional, and as an added bonus, my System Restore function was working again. It had not been working because of a missing installer patch. The problem appeared to be a corrupted installer file.
