Reader crashes whenever it tries to activate DRM...

I'm running MacOS X.4.7 and Reader 7.0.8.

What I'm about to describe works fine on every user account on my machine except for one... Unfortunately, it's the one that I need to have functioning.

Whenever I try to activate DRM, I get a dialog box stating that I have Digital Editions from a previous version of Acrobat or Reader (and I don't - I've never been able to activate under this account...and it's the root account). It goes on to say that if I want to continue to use these I need to reactivate.

I have a choice by way of radio buttons to either reactivate or to forget about reactivation and never have access to those fictitional documents again. Then I can either click OK, Cancel, or Help. No matter what I choose, the program will bomb out. Either immediately on clicking Cancel, or selecting "Never reactivate existing editions" and then clicking OK, or if I tell it to reactivate, I'm taken to the Adobe site, go through the rigamarole of downloading a DRM activation file, and _then_ the program bombs when trying to access that file.

I've been flummoxed enough by this that I've even paid the $40 for the tech support. They had no idea, told me that Adobe doesn't really support DRM since it's "kind of 3rd party" and then finally told me to ask here.

So that's where I am. I can get this working in a different user account, but I'd really like it if I could get it working in my main one.

Has anybody seen this before?
