After updating Adobe Reader to 7.0.8 on my notebook Thursday evening July 13th and going thru the restart as required my Acer notebook hung up and wouldn't complete starting. I'm running XP Professional with all the recent patches and updates. I uninstalled Adobe and ran system cleanup and defragged the drives. Then I ran a clean install of Adobe Reader 7.0.8. The start up is very slow - slower than when running the earlier vers of Adobe Reader. The system occasionally hangs up when restarting. I have contacted Microsoft and they are investigating any conflict between Adobe and with the updates downloaded this past Tuesday July 11th. No other s/w has been installed except Adobe so I feel the problem is isolated to this install / update. Since Adobe is "required" for so many downloaded files I need to determine what will be required to prevent damage to my system or the MAJOR inconvenience of hung up start-ups. HELP! THIS UPDATE ADDED: The notebook now will not shut down "normally"! I am more than a little annoyed! I will personally contact the Manager for ACER North America Customer Services @ ACER on Monday to notify them of the problem with Adobe to see if they can assist and resolve.

Lou, Do you have Norton Utilities? Can you run disk doctor to search for a corrupt directory? Mike
