I recently updated Reader from 5.0 to 7 and now when I create a PDF in Pagemaker, Reader 7 won't open automatically. I have to open Reader 7 and select the PDF. When I look at the options in the distiller, the highest Reader to select is 5. How do I get the distiller to work with the upgrade?

Thanks, Connie

Distiller has no options for Reader version. But the options must be
somewhere - where are you looking?

I a very similar problem. I have Acrobat 5 installed and still require that for printing into PDF format using Acrobat Distiller. In parallel I have Reader 7.0.8 installed as my default PDF reader. Yet links to PDF documents and forms are openend with Acrobat 5 by both IE and Firefox 1.5.0.4. As several online PDF forms require Reader 6 or higher they can't be worked properly with Acrobat 5. I've looked at all setting in WinXP and browsers I was able to find to set Reader 7 as the default app for PDF documents but still those links are opened by Acrobat 5.
Where can I change a setting to finally make Reader 7 the default app and plugin to open PDF documents & form inline in my browser.

Thank you

Actually, it's not similar at all.

If it was installed after Acrobat 5, it should do that by default. You may want to remove and reinstall Reader 7. Otherwise, launch Reader 7 before attempting to view a PDF in the browser.

Similar issue here as well. I tried out a "freebie" reader program, for whatever reason clicked on "set as default" - eventually removed it. Their instructions indicated that if I wanted to return to Adobe as the default reader, that it would ask me that question the next time I used it. Of course, it didn't...and there seems to be no other solution than deleting the program and re-installing it afresh. Guess I'll try that, since there seems to be no other "fix" to this issue. Thanks for posting, folks.

OK - I deleted Reader 5, 6, and 7 from my computer, re-installed 7.0.8 easily enough (20 MB file, be sure to uncheck the two other optional downloads of approx 7 MB file size). Opened the program easily enough, but got no question about making it the default reader - and still find no place to do so within the program. I did set the multiple "preferences" available. Before I started all of this, every PDF file I had on my computer displayed the familier Adobe logo...but ever since I installed that other program, the PDF files no longer have that logo - and are difficult to identify without allowing the cursor "hover" to highlight the file-type. Upon clicking a PDF file, though, the new program opens automatically and very quickly...faster than it did before I deleted the other programs and re-installed the current one.
