Installation wizard stalls at Error message 1714 (Unable to uninstall older version) when installing 7.08 even though I have followed all the instructions to uninstall all older versions. Dell inspiron lAPTOP, 264 RAM, XP Pro Version 2002,Service Pack 2

Just to let anyone having the same problem, I finally found that by starting in safe mode I was able to cut and paste the older version from the windows explorer to the desktop then restart in the normal mode and install 7.0.8. Works fine now! Hope this helps someone.

Ran into this also this morning. Found a reference in other posts to Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Installed, and ran utility. Highlighted Adobe Reader 7.07 and voila! Next attempt to install Adobe Reader went off without a hitch.
