I am using Open office.org writer which has a button in the tool bar that when clicked your doc. becomes pdf. I did this to send an email of 15 pages that I created but I am not finished with it yet so I want to make changes. The problem that I am having is that I have also been storing this doc. in Microsoft word. and on a junk drive. I simply want control of my document again. Is there a way that I can completely unlock this doc. since I am the creator I think I should be able to gain my freedom of choice in this matter; but I don't Know. Can I, and if possible how do I? / thank You for any help.

You should be talking to the openoffice.org folks. They aren't using Adobe technology. at any rate, you can't do anything of the sort with Reader.

In the message above I left out that when I try to save as a microsoft word doc. A message pops up that tells me another user has locked this doc. and I can't change it. Well that person is me. Can I completely unlock my pdf?

Probably yes. Once again, best to ask at openoffice. It's not an Adobe issue.
