Is it possible to manually install Adobe Reader? I have a system running Mozilla with no access to the registry and I need to add PDF support. If not, are there any free for commercial use alternatives that would work?

Robert, We need more information. For example what is your OS? What exactly do you mean by manually install. Adobe does offer the full installer from their ftp site. Are you saying that Mozilla doesn't support Reader? Under the Mac OS this is true, but under Windows you should be able to read pdf files using your browser. I know that it works with Firefox which uses the same engine as Mozilla. Mike

I'm using Mozilla on the NT Embedded (NTE) OS. The issue is that I need to install the Adobe Reader plug-in manually (by placing the necessary files in required locations and / or modifying anything that requires modification) and I do not have the ability to access the registry.

Does that mean the running program wouldn't be able to access the registry either? In such a case, I can't think that it would work. Most Windows programs assume they can reference the HKEY_CURRENT_USER portion of the registry. However, NT Embedded doesn't actually seem to be the same as any version of Windows, and only regular versions of Windows are supported. Installing Reader is a complex business including registering components, which is done by Windows Installer. Aandi Inston

No, it has access at runtime. The problem is any other time :(.

I wonder if you could, at runtime, use msiexec to get Reader installed from its Windows Installer package... Aandi Inston
