I just got asked if I wanted Reader to automatically check for updates every week, so I said to do that. Reader came back with three updates that it said that I should have -- 7.0.5, 7.0.7 and 7.0.8. I said to install them.

What a pain! For each update, I had to reboot my PC. That's three reboots for three point-point releases! Hasn't anybody there heard of cumulative updates? The system obviously knows what version I have, so it would be wonderful if you created cumulative updates to avoid rebooting my PC more than once.

Now, I'm a software developer, too, and I understand that you can't do this forever. I would probably recommend cumulative updates for each major version (5.x to 6.0, 6.x to 7.0, 7.x to current). That way nobody would have to reboot their machine more than once per major version.

Of course, the bigger question is why Reader is so tied into the system that it requires a reboot at all, but I won't go there.

I absolutely agree!!!

I recently reloaded a ghost backup of my system from about 8 months ago. I have been rebooting my machine what seems like at least three a day since so that Acrobat Reader can do its damn updates to catch up. An absolute PAIN!

It usually requires 3 reboots in a row, and to top it off, my video drivers seem to go walkies, so I have to reinstall those, reset my dual monitor span settings, adjust the resolution and relocate my icons.

Again... WHAT A PAIN!!!

Why the hell does it need to reboot Every Time? Once a day not enough? Even better, how about NEVER!

As someone who does installations at work, I can confirm that Reader installation is made very unprofessionally. For example, they don't even care to associate PDF files with the program properly - the way they do it is a hack in fact. I have actually created a transform that fixes their bugs, so whenever I deploy the next version to the users, it goes with the transform.
