Hi everyone, I've got one question. If somebody knows, please help. I installed eprints software under FC5.This is an e-archive of documents. With this software you can search for the documents in OAI (Open Archive Initiative). When you find a document (for ex. In .pdf format) you can have a free access to it. I'd like to avoid the search inside of .pdf format. The question is: How to avoid the next search in .pdf file? Does somebody have any ideas how to do it? I tried to ask an administrator from <http://www.eprints.org> but he doesn't know. Probably, I should configure the search from eprints with search of pdf viewer. Thank you in advance.

If you don't want a PDF file to be searched, you need to make sure it contains no text. Aandi Inston

Thank you Aandi for you reply. Quite the contrary, Id like a text inside of .pdf file to be searched by another application (eprints in my case). When I am looking for the special text I type a word inside of search field in eprints. After, when search is finished, I got some results, links to documents (quite similar in Google or yahoo). Only one think, which I want to have, when I click on the link I want to have not only .pdf text but the searching word as well. It means that eprints should avoid Acrobat Reader additional searching inside and show the searching word directly in the text. Hope, now a bit more clear the situation, which I tried to explain in the first message. If you got some ideas how to do it, Id really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

So, if I understand right (I'll try again) you want an extra feature in eprints, so that what you search for is automatically shown in the PDF. This is technically feasible (with Reader 6 or later) but I think the eprints programmers would have to do the work. Note that Reader would still search for the text, you would just not have to repeat the request. Aandi Inston

Yes, you understand right. I want to have an extra feature in Eprints. I chat with programmers of Eprints but nothing special. They said its a good idea but if I want to have it I must do it by myself. Probably they dont have free time to spend on it. Its open source software. Maybe you know how to implement a script and connect to the Adobe Reader search engine? Eprints written in Perl and I have to write additional script which Adobe Reader will understand. Only one thing that I dont have any ideas how it should work, I mean the structure of such a system. Even, I dont have any ideas from where I should start. Maybe you know where can I get a structure of Adobe Reader search algorithm and then will understand how to connect to it or can give me a hint what should I do? Thank you in advance

You cannot script Adobe Reader, and you cannot directly talk to its search algorithm. But you can request a search on the Reader command line in Windows. See "PDF Open Parameters" http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/acrobat/PDFOpenParameters.pdf Aandi Inston

Thank you for your help. I will try to put the search request to the code. Hope it will work.
