Adobe 8.1 Quite Working and Now I cannot read my PDF's

All of the sudden Adobe quit working and I thought perhaps I needed to download the newer version which I did. Nothing was working then so I uninstalled version 9. Now I cannot reload version 8.1. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup tool and remove all traces of 
Reader. Then try re-installing Reader 9.

What exactly happens if you try? Also, if you want to go with version 8, you better download the latest version from <http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.1.3/enu/AdbeRdr813_en_US.exe>
