Help! I can't install or uninstall Adobe Reader.

I accidentally deleted part of Adobe Reader 8.1.2. Now, I can't read PDF documents. I tried to install Reader 9 but I kept getting a message box that says, "The feature you are using is on a network resource that is unavailable." It also gives me the option to try again or change the directory, neither of which solves the problem.

I then went to the Control Panel and tried to have the Add or Remove Programs application remove Reader 8.1.2 but the exact same window came up. It supposedly has something to do with the fact that there is no installation path for Reader 8.1.2. How do I get rid of Reader 8.1.2 and then subsequently install reader 9?

I just downloaded Windows Installer Cleanup to my computer (or at least the setup for it). It said that the program was done installing, so I clicked on "Finish" but I can't find the program on my computer. I even used the search function in the Start menu to find "windows installer" and it found nothing. What did I do wrong?

You should find it on Start -> Programs as 'Windows Install Clean Up'.

I downloaded and installed the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Then I looked in the start menu for the cleanup program and that allowed me to delete Reader 8.1.2.

I don't normally join forums, but I had the same problem and followed the advice of graffiti and Pat Willener and solved the problem in 15 minutes. Thanks for your help.

Windows installer mentioned that they couldn't delete files. I have some persistent ,old files, left in my c/drive.The Updater, Pistd(the way I feel) Index and Recyclers, each have 2 entries. I would appreciate any input.

I have tried safe mode and it didn't work. I don't know how old these files are . Because I use Firefox , I also used IE to try to delete them. When I press delete I can only copy or extract them. They remain in c/drive. I tried to extract all the folders to the desktop and delete them . I hear the sound of deletion but they still appear on the drive/files/folders. I am going to try Malwarebytes, they a " file killer tool" but I am not sure how to use it.
CC cleaner removed anything left in Regedit. From reading previous posts. It seems that, to totally uninstall Adobe is extremely difficult.

Removing traces of Reader is easy with the Microsoft Installer cleanup
tool. What is difficult is to overcome the mess from other registry
editing tools.

I'm having a similar problem. I can't uninstall the 8.1 reader, I get a message that it's in use and that I have to turn it off???? I'm trying to update it with the 9 reader.

I also deleted a component of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and now can't get rid of it in 'Add or Remove Programs'. When I try to download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (in safe mode) I get a pop-up that say The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.'

I'm lost on this. Someone please help me!

Login as Administrator, then, to allow the installation of the cleanup tool.

Thanks Mike and Tavis - I downloaded the Windows installation cleanup tool and was able to uninstall Adobe R 8.1.1, this then allowed me at long last to install version 9 - A problem that had been frustrating me for some months was resolved in just a few minutes.

I can't uninstall adobe and I tried to install the Clean up Utility but I can't because I'm running on a 64-bit system. I just got this computer a week ago and things are already messed up. And the people at Bestbuy (where I got it from) didn't help at all. They told me to research it online.
