I've used a long time the Adobe Reader 6.0, but lately it could not open in the browser many pdf files written with the new Acrobat applications. Then I tried to download Adobe Reader 8.1.3 from the Adobe site, understanding that Reader 9 still has some bugs, and I got really stuck... It seems that the root of the problem lies in an Active X add-on for IE (gp.ocx , published by Adobe Systems Incorporated). After releasing a lot of security limitations on the browser, I've finally got: "IE has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close". The following add-on was running when this problem occurred: File: gp.ocx Company Name: Adobe Systs. Inc. Description: Adobe DLM I have verified that this ActX add-on appears as Enabled in the list of IE add-ons, but I could not update it (may be it is old or rough enough to stop IE 6.0 in a XPpro sp 2 environment. An intent to disable it caused another Installation failure. A trial to update it resulted in an announcement that it is not clear where to update it, if any. Does anyone have any idea how to solve or at least skirt this problem? I shall more than appreciate it very much !!! Thanks in advance!

You don't give any clue when this problem occurs - during the download, during install, or when trying to view a PDF file on IE?

Thanks for the reply. The problem occurs during installation. At the first stage, short download installs the GetPlus DLM (Download Manager). I can see it installed in Settings --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs. Then it leaves a shortcut with the Adobe icon in my Desktop reading "Resume Adobe Downloads". When I press it (shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" AND ALSO TO "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NOS\nosget_start_manager_15235.html") the real download of the files should begin. It just opens the downloading applet and before downloading anything I am getting this "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with the said add-on, and must close... Send notification/Do not send (you know)"

I see now that I was not the only one to experience such a problem VIPER12 on the 15.12.08 "browser crashes when trying to install. Pls help me" already described a similar problem during Adobe Reader 9.0 download from the Adobe site. Is this a particularity of just Adobe Reader 8 and 9 versions downloads? If anyone has a clue how to solve this problem I'll be grateful.

Don't use the download manager.

1) Yes, thank you. But how and where can you - despite everything - download the Reader 8 or 9 software without the downloader? Any suggestion? 2)Assuming there is - and I should like very much to know - a way to install without using the downloader (what do you mean? a CD?), should I uninstall the downloader, or even, Restore the system to previous to installation?? Thank you in advance for your collaboration. We'll all learn from this.
