Sounds like fun. I too deal with lots of digital camera images and images from other sources. My workflow is to use the OS X image capture to bring in the photos from the camera. It gives thumbnails and I rotate the appropriate ones. Sometimes it's left 90, sometimes right 90 and even 180. But I always want my pictures correct orientation. At some point a human has to look at the pictures and determine the orientation. Why not build a simple photoshop rotate on the images that have been flagged? It can run in the background, or at night. I have a simple photoshop action that i run against my input from the camera that assigns a colourspace and resizes the images to 350 dpi to make more indesign friendly til indesign gives control over preview size. The whole process take me very little time for hundreds of photos. The upside is the photos can be used in web building, slideshows indesign or wherever and always be rightside up. A program that I use daily to organize and view and catalog and as a third finder hand is iview. Dirt cheap and very very useful. peter M
