Thx for the info ... though I'm not sure I want to start up w/ a new language, now that I' starting to get the hang of AS. Maybe I should just grit my teeth & deal w/ it.

Yup, I run the script from the sripts palette; plus I collapse the window of the active document, which also seems to make a big difference. I even close all the other palettes, which probably doesn't make a difference but it makes me feel better. 

Ben -- 

It's my secondary machine, a Powerbook G3 running at 266 ... so I cut it some slack. <g> But the script is a bear, too: for some reason I haven't figured out yet, some spaces had character styling 
different than the surrounding text. I.e. in the name "John Doe", the words "John" and "Doe" would have character styling "Name", but the space between them would be styled "Address". 

That totally screwed up my various scripts. The only way I could think do fix that was to choose every space and give it the same style as the character before it. That's a lot of grinding. 

(I'm sure Shane could finesse it w/ a 2-line script, but one gets tired of asking for help <g>)
