What would be the best way to move, say, the entire contents of a page (or a
master spread) including all text boxes, text, formatting, graphics, links,
etc. without using the (dreaded) clipboard?

I have accomplished this so far by getting the pertinent properties from all
the items in the "source" doc and then making new items with those props in
the "destination" doc.

Sometimes this takes a while, however. With text frames, for example, I need
nested repeat loops to make each new text frame and then make a new
paragraph within that text frame for each paragraph.

Is there an easier way of doing all this?

In the best possible world, I would be able to just take one or more pages
(or master spreads) from one document and move them to another document
(Similar to how I can drag and drop between docs in the UI), but
unfortunately the "move" command doesn't seem to like the idea very much.
