Mike--

re: "The ID scripting interpreter is so slow that I believe that it must have been written in Prolog."

It's not the scripting interpreter that's slow, it's the speed of some operations in ID. It's quite easy to observe during the course of manual (i.e., non-scripted) operations--text composition/display, even with all of the fancy options turned off, is anything but speedy.

In my opinion, it's worth it, because the advanced typesetting features mean that I don't have to spend (literally) days fixing loose/tight lines, kerning problems, etc.

Same deal with the constant disk writing--it slows things down, but we get unlimited undo. It would be nice to be able to turn this feature off for script-driven processes, in my opinion.

Thanks,

Ole
