I hope that someone other than just me is out there learning something from this lot, because I've come up with the next problem. Having now been told by both Dave (glad to have thePageMaker vertical tabulation man on board!) and Ole that I should work backwards with paragraphs to keep the numbers right, I have to create my table backwards, ie, create a new column ahead of the last one. Does what you told me about working backwards mean that the column numbering works backwards as well? Does the first column that I create (being the last one in the table) have the number 1. Or will I always be creating column number 1 as the columns are added? I'm thinking of something like: Set MyColumns = MyTable.Columns.Add(idBefore, MyTable.Columns.Item(whatshouldthisnumberbe?)) Hope the structure of that last bit is correct, because I couldn't find any Columns.Add examples and I'm just going by the ID VB Reference. Mike
