"How much slower? I'd have to run a timing test, but I have a script that converts the selection to lowercase and then applies the character style "Small Caps." When run from ID, the intermediate step is not displayed but when run from RB it is -- for an instant, I see the lowercase letters." Hi Dave I think that it must always be slower running from REALbasic. There is a certain amount of overhead involved I am sure. Although the AppleScript is included in the REALbasic code, how is this done? I can't somehow imagine that it can be converted to AppleEvents (even if that would do any good). So therefore, is REALbasic just calling AppleScript just as the user might when selecting a compiled script in ID's script palette? In this case, the REALbasic program would have to hand over to AppleScript, which would then in turn call InDesign. And this process would be repeated whenever a new AppleScript instruction would be "involved". Whereas, starting the AppleScript from InDesign's script palette involves one less process. Is there any way that Adobe could allow the use of REALbasic in a similar way to Visual Basic? Or would that be a duplication of effort as on the Mac AppleScript is available, of coure. Cliff
