Good to see that you're thinking about it, however working *on the page* would be something of a novelty for me. As 99 per cent of my work follows exactly the same design, week in, week out, I have managed to avoid *working* in dtp software for years by recreating all the necessary Ventura files with my own software, simply changing the references to the data. So you can see why I was so excited by the prospect of writing my own front end to ID. To be quite honest, if everything had gone as I had planned, ID would have been little more than an icon on the task bar for months at a time. 

Expletive deleted! Having written the above, I've realised that there's no reason why I cannot parse the incoming text file as a preliminary to placing it in the column. I could then place each line of the text to be vertically tabbed in side-by-side frames of their own in the column, and automatically adjust the height of all the frames to that of the largest. This would give me a starting point for the next line. Could get a bit complicated at the turn of a column, but I'm sure it would work for what I need it for... 

Rather than thinking on line, I'd better give it a try. ID gets a 7-day reprieve
