David: My Vaio is the F690K. I don't know enough about how modern chips handle floating point - the last time I knew a lot about chip instruction sets was with micros when they didn't have hardware floating point. Perhaps it's as you describe. One thing I do know is that when I flip it to high speed, the fan comes on a lot quicker/more when performing processor intensive stuff than at the low speed. I expect that means that it's working somewhat faster. In fact, I went back because it was bugging me that the values weren't different. This time I got results that were about 12% faster at 850 MHz than at 700 (even though the speeds are actually about 20% different). It seems like the little icon in the system tray that indicates the speed may not always be accurate - maybe it depends if it has come out of standby mode or something. Anyway, I've now seen results that make more sense - but the numbers haven't changed drastically from what I reported, and the savings by minimizing the window are still of the same order of magnitude. It's interesting that you're scripting in Python. I've looked at the language a bit - it seems to have some nice features, and the fact that it is nore cross-platform (especially compared to VB is a plus). Even though it does support COM interfaces, I can imagine that it would add overhead above what VB6 has. VB.NET certainly seems to demonstrate some overhead. Best wishes on your scripting, -- Greg
