How can I set all of the text in one text frame so that the kerning value is 180?

Thanks,

Justin M.

Justin,

Kerning is used for individual character pairs, it's not possible to apply that to a selection of characters. To apply spacing to stretches of text, use tracking.

Hello,

I was looking for something similar and I wonder if it were possible to have a script that can change the kerning value in the whole document from Metrics to Optical?

Thanks,

L.

app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().kerningMethod = "Optical";

Thank you, Peter!
That was quick :-)

I made an addition (inspired by another script I have) to include also tables cells

app.activeDocument.stories.everyItem().tables.everyItem().cells.everyItem().texts[0].kerningMethod = "Optical";

I just wanted to add that apparently the kerning is actually controlled by what InDesign calls "tracking". That is what I used in a paragraph style to solve my problem. As long as I assign the correct paragraph style the text in the box will be properly spaced.

Thanks,

Justin M.

Justin,

Kerning and tracking are not the same thing: they are set independently of each other. Kerning applies to letter pairs, never more. Tracking can be applied to words, paragraphs, stories, etc.
