You mean you want to save InDesign documents every 5 minutes? InDesign creates automatic backups about every second. Peter

Depends where you told InDesign where to put the recovery data -- see Preferences > File handling > Document recovery data. When InDesign crashes and you restart, any documents that were open when ID crashed will be opened automatically. Peter

Recovery and backups are two similar but different things. If you want to run a timer in association with an InDesign startup script (seems to me more appropriate to run it in association with an afterOpen event), then you'll need to trigger an associated script in AppleScript for VB (using doScript) that can handle the timing. Or, you could hang your backup script off a number of UI events that the user is likely to operate with reasonable frequency. That way, during times of no activity, you won't be messing around with unnecessary backups. Dave

When ID starts, you run some code that starts the Bridge script. The Bridge script schedules a task to run every 5 minutes. That code calls ID script to backup your files as required.

dave, as you said when am tracing the afteropen event of document, the next step not proceeded, script shows error as "model dialog box exists cant proceed further" how to overcome this? the dialog box is default one which popups for new document creation. and also when i call the applescript from startup script i cant able to interact with InDesign document. thanks subha

Not much I can say. I'm not sure the afterOpen event is much use. The document isn't there yet so what can you do? As for startup scripts, their point is to set things up for later (just like InDesign loads its preferences at startup) not interact with documents -- there likely isn't one yet. Dave
