Good Day,

Much thanks for the help received so far!

If I had an object in the clipboard, is it possible to Paste In Place it on every page in a document?

There would be possibly 100 pages!

Much thanks!

Hi anon yomousx,

Why not use duplicate, rather than paste in place? It'll be quicker, and it won't involve turning pages, etc.?

But, before we can say how to do that, you need to tell us: which version of InDesign? which scripting language?

Thanks,

Ole

Sorry that I was unclear!

It would be CS3, any language is OK.

It would be a text box containing today's date.

We would then update that text box when we changed the page's contents.
To avoid threading problems, I would prefer that each page has a separate text box :)

Hi ana ymousx,

This sounds like a job for an item on a master spread, to me. Why not do that?

Thanks,

Ole

We would need individual text boxes on each of the pages which start out with the same date, but will change FOR THAT PAGE when that map is updated.

Allows us to track changes... and use versioning

Can that be done using Master Pages?

Here is a start. You will need to target the text frame somehow. I like labels, so I called a text frame "map date". You'd have to release the master frame first. [Applescript]:

tell application "System Events"
set theCurrentDate to (get (current date) as string)
end tell

tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
	tell document 1
		tell page 1
			--tell text frame 1
			tell text frame "map date"
				set contents to theCurrentDate
			end tell
		end tell
	end tell
end tell
