My employer is a large customer of Adobe products Up until now we have avoided upgrading to OSX for a variety of reasons, one of which was the uncertainty around Streamline, a product that we use daily Well, in recent negotiations with Adobe representatives, my company has agreed to adopt the Adobe Creative Suite when we upgrade to G5s a little later on this year and in the process, will be replacing QuarkXpress with Indesign.

When the concern over Streamline was brought up, they did not outright say that there would be no future versions of Streamline but they told us that for the time being, we would be best to stick with Streamline in Classic mode and that with the next release of Illustrator, the issue would be resolved for us

I would guess this to mean that either they are going to bundle and updated version with the next release of Illustrator or more likely, they will roll the functionality of it directly into Illustrator like they did to a large degree with Dimensions

From an economic standpoint it sort of makes sense that they took a staggered approach to the process as it creates more incentive for people to buy both upgrades, especially with companies like mine that routinely skip one or more upgrades because of the expense involved and because of all the red tape that has to be waded through to get approvals from management and parent companies

I guess if this is really how it is to turn out (I dont think we would be going forward at this time with Streamline if it werent) it is good news for all of us who use Illustrator and perhaps not such great news for the Freehand and Draw folks

Just wanted to say that though they may not be saying anything at all on public record, it doesnt seem that the future of the Streamline technology has been dead ended as one might naturally gather from the last three quarters of a decade or so without an upgrade, update or even a peep from Adobe about anything happening with it at all.

Just keep in mind that none of this is official information and was given to me indirectly by someone who was dealing with Adobe. Adobe to my knowledge, never said that there would be an upgrade to Streamline or that it would be rolled into Illustrator or that it would be replaced by something else all together They just said the issue would be resolved with the next release of Illustrator (at least in our circumstances, anyway) read into it what you like. Me? Im a glass is half full kind of guy.
