Hi Wayne If I were to recommend to someone how to memorise fonts, I'd suggest they start by learning one of the many type classification schemes (old-style, transitional, modern, etc), and the main fonts in each style, because that makes it easier for narrowing the list of possibilities down. Also study a list of distinguishing marks such as is found in "Rookledge's Typefinder". And just check out old specimen books. (Most typographers seem to hoard these things.) But there's no "correct" way to do it. The more you use fonts, the more you pick up, the more you remember. Measurements: I always work in points for typesetting and layout work and set my preferences that way in my software. I even prefer points for page measurements because I just find it easier that way (though inches were usually the standard unit for page sizes). I avoid centimetres and millimetres. (To make conversions easy, there was a handheld calculator designed for publishing with keys for converting picas and points to inches and millimetres called the Graphic Arts Master, but they're out of production and pretty hard to locate now. And a Palm Pilot can do more, though I haven't found many publishing unit calculating programs yet written for them.) Cheers, Dominic
