Jay I suspect that the designer just had a few dozen people write the word Dodgers out and then chose the ones that were most pleasing. The thing about making a logo, as opposed to making a typeface, is that not all the letters of the alphabet are created. Only those few in the word are created. Occasionally (rarely actually) a typeface might be developed from the logo. Avant Garde is an example of a popular face that originated as a logo. I have see the Coca-cola face done as an amatuer typeface, although I think that script is trademarked. My suggestion is to check out all the script faces you can, and take something similar. Then use Illustrator or something like it to convert the characters to outlines, and then build from there.
