David: Enhanced font rendering technology is really sort of orthogonal to OpenType. People are doing it with either PostScript or TrueType outlines (or both), and OpenType supports either of these approaches. Matt: The OpenType spec does not have anything equivalent to multiple master functionality in it. We considered having it in there, but the support costs would have been huge, and application developers (including Adobe) have never really gone out of their way to take advantage of the capabilities of multiple master fonts. We had more support for 0penType-specific features before we had any retail OpenType fonts than we got for MMs after shipping them for a decade. Adobe has in fact stopped selling multiple master fonts that have an OpenType equivalent. We do still support the format, and still sell those MM fonts that have not yet been converted to OpenType. Finally, yes, all the OpenType fonts Adobe has shipped have been PostScript-based, as this was easiest for us in our development environment. In many cases, we started with previous PostScript fonts. However, Adobe supports TrueType-flavored OpenType fonts equally in our applications. Generally, PostScript-flavored OpenType have a ".otf" extension, and TrueType-flavored has a ".ttf" extension.
