I noticed today that the Jenson family has been issued in optical variations for captions, subheads, etc., in the new Open Type product from Adobe. 

I wonder if this something that will be followed through with other faces, or is it a test to see if the market will pay for that kind of quality? It would be great to see other text faces treated that way. 

To me, this means that type quality has finally achieved the point we were at in 1950, when faces were designed for specific sizes. Phototype blew this away, and until now digital type has preserved the fallacy that one design will work at all sizes. 

(For those of you who haven't seen the Jenson samples, there is a caption cut that is slightly heavier, and designed for use in smaller sizes, like photo captions. Subhead and titling weights are lighter, so their weight does not overwhelm the page. Other fonts have issued titling faces before, but I have not seen one with four specific size-related optical corrections.) 

Do any of the designers here think this will catch on well enough for Adobe to continue, or will the masses be happy with their single-weight fonts?
