While I don't presume to know the English or American pronunciation of the name of this typeface in the 1920s and 1930s, Rudolf Koch, the resoundingly German designer of Kabel, passed on the German pronunciation of the existing word (Kabel is German for cable, as in cable car or a telegram) as applied to his creation to successive generations of German typographers. The word is KAH-bel (where the e is the same as in bell) (rhymes with gavel). It can also be legitimately referred verbally as cable, the English translation of Kabel. Just my two cents.
