The book, "Take Control of Fonts in Leopard" is written by Sharon Zardetto and is available from TidBits <http://db.tidbits.com/> either as a .pdf or in hard copy. Font Book, the built-in font manager in OS X does permit duplicates of a given font to be installed but automatically chooses one of them to be the active version.
