What? You've got that table set to 1600 pixels??????????
First
make the table "100%"...this means it will expand and contract the width of the end users window no matter what screen res they are using.
Set cellspacing and cellpadding each to "0" so prevent gaps.
If you want one cell to expand with content and the others to stay a fixed size:
Say a left sidebar ---- td valign="top" width="150"
(That's 150 pixels...fixed)
You want a middle content area to strech:
td valign="top" width="65%"
(Note the percent sign)
A right sidebar----td valign="top" width="150"
You normally don't set table height...let the content take care of that.
Now....because you have cellpadding and cellspacing at 0 your content will hit the of the table and be smooched. You'll use CSS to control the individual table cells.
.td }
padding: 15px; /* Or Whatever amount of padding */
{
