Just fyi, it is now widely considered to be the "Big Eight"

     comp, humanities, news, misc, rec, sci, soc, talk

Humanities is the new one. What makes a hierarchy part of the 'Big Whatever'
is the method of control and creation used. Generally, if "TALE" sends
out a newsgroup, its official.

Tale is David Lawrence, the virtual God of usenet. He's been "managing" usenet
for ages, and we basically have him to thank for its continued existence.
