I'm not a guru, but I'd suggest the following, as Linux includes lilo - a boot manager which is not pretty, but works well and reliably (like everything else in Linux). There are a lot of other boot managers around and I can't remember whether Mandrake includes a fancier one, or not, as well. If I were you, I'd pick up a CD of Linux-Mandrake v. 7.1. It's probably less than $10 in the States and only around $15(Aus) in Australia. It's much better than Red Hat for strugglers like you and me. Boot Windows and the CD will probably auto-boot. If not, look at it and fire it up and follow the instructions. It's accepted that most Linux users also have a Windows partition, so it will help you to re-partition your hard drive and install a boot manager so that you can regress to Windows if you miss the blue screen of death. After a while, you'll probably dump your Windows partition, but I wouldn't be in a hurry to until you're happy with Linux and have all the alternative software running to your satisfaction. Good luck. By the way, I discarded Windows quite a while ago and haven't missed it at all. I'm not against it - if you like that sort of thing. It's OK for yuppies, but it's certainly not designed for thinking people. .....Bob.
