When you start xwindows, try pushing control/alt/+  at the same time.  That is
the kb shortcut to turning the res up.

If that dosen't work, try running xconf from the command prompt and try setting
the resolution a little bit higher and/or try using the generic monitor
setting.  I have problems with xwindows working right when i installed, but
after i ran xconf again, it worked right.

Just remember, YOU CAN SMOKE YOUR MONITOR IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL!!!!!!    if you
startx and your screen looks wierd  hit control/alt/bkspace quick to exit out
of xwindows and run xconf again.  You might have to do it more than once before
you get it right.
