Hardware detection ?

Hi everybody, I'm new to Linux and get some problems. I"m using Mandrake 7.0

I'm unable to make my sound card detected and my modem too.

I have a Soundblaster 16 PnP ISA (there is no jumper to change the com or
irq)
and an
ActionTec ISA PnP 56K X2 Voice fax modem. (com4 irq3)

What is the way to make it detect. Is there something like the �Control
Panel� from the other OS ?
