I think I have the same problem.  The Linux initialization routine detects a
PS/2 port (round connector) which is not used, but in fact my mouse is on
the serial port.  During detection RedHat could not detect a mouse on the
serial port (even though Windows NT and Windows 98 had no problem).   I
tried a quick edit of the X mouse configuration file (forget the name) and
it did not work.   The solution, I suspect, is to either connect the mouse
to the unused PS/2 port, or labouriously edit the files as suggested.  Yet
another reason why Linux is inferior to Windows98 and NT for installation.
