At work I have installed RH 6.0 on a win95 machine onto a secondary hard
drive using it as drive letter e. (For this sake though, I will call it D:)
My suggestions are that when you install the Linux hard drive into the 95
machine, see if your LILO comes up on boot up. If not, and it continues to
load windows, simply reboot and use the Linux boot disk to bring up your
Linux. If you don't like having to use the boot up disk to bring up Linux,
then you will have to re-install Linux with the same partitions and choosing
"no" when it asks you if you want to format the drives. As long as you
answer no to any formatting question, and place LILO on the master boot
sector of c: then you should have no proplems at all. (also when you are
setting up partitions, dont forget your swap file.) Things of note. It is
always good to defrag before attempting to install Linux into your system.
Also, from time to time I manage to wipe the windows off the boot sector.
If this happens you will need to re-install windows using your boot-up disk
and once again, choose no to any formatting questions. It can get a bit
tricky, and the only times that I have wiped windows from the boot sector is
when I have not previously defragged. So, before you make the transfer make
sure you have a boot up disk for windows and for linux. Always handy. If
you don't have one then look on the web. They are easy to find. If you
choose this method, then test the boot disks before using them. I know that
there are probably easier ways to reset your LILO and WINDOWS into your boot
sector; however, I am not aware of them. Hope this helps.
