I dont think that you can simply upgrade a kernel by updating the kernel rpm. There are around 6 rpms. Three for the header files which have to be upgraded and some which have to be installed. There must be a readme somewhere. Once you install and upgrade those rpms, compile the new kernel and it will result in a new boot image. Move this to the area where you have the old boot image and give it some different name. Then add some lines in the /etc/lilo.conf file telling the machine where to find the new boot image. Do not delete the old one till your new one starts working. In fact, keep backups of the old one so that you can switch over to it when req. > Can anybody help me.
