I successfully installed the Mandrake LINUX 6.0 (Macmillan software's packaging of Red Hat). I forgot my password. Is there a way to go in and change or override the password so that I can put in another one or do without one. I don't need a password because this is a home computer and I am the only user of the computer. I was told that I could get into the following: "Boot using floppies, mount the harddrive under a /tmp directory or something like it. Use a text editor to change the /tmp/etc/passwd file or the appropriate shadow password file if you have shadow activated" Unfortunately I don't know how to mount the hard drive. If I figured out how to use an editor I would be able to do that. The problem is that I need to get beyond the logon screen so that I can use the reference material - which may help me. It was stupid of me to forget the password. I have tried all of the passwords that I have to use at work and etc. without luck.
